The Probus Club of Royal Tunbridge Wells

There was a record attendance at our 40th Anniversary lunch on 16th May 2013.  Eighty-four Probus RTW members and their ladies attended, together with forty-seven guests. Twelve Probus clubs were represented, including one ladies-only club and our twin club from Senlis. The guest list included:

 

Peter Gibby one of the leading Rotarians who, in 1973, took the initiative in setting up the RTW Probus Club

Linda Smith, step-daughter of Howard Simmonds, former Rotarian and founder of RTW Probus

Roger Kasper, editor of the “Kent and Sussex Courier”.

Geoff and Jean Abbott, respectively chairman Tonbridge Probus Club 2009 and vice-president elect Hilden Ladies Probus Club.

On each of the sixteen tables were placed a red (for ruby anniversary) corsage for each of the ladies, souvenir menu cards, and some archival items from the foundation of the Club in 1973. President Don Smith opened the proceedings by welcoming the members’ ladies  and the other guests with special mentions for Peter Gibby, Linda Smith, Roger Kasper and visitors from Senlis.
